“Mine, Mine, Mine…”

Ever been in a pre-school and watched one of the children walk around with a toy that another child wanted with a “I got a toy that you want and your not getting it” look on their face….and then to see that same child go to such extremes to make sure the other child does not get ahold of the said toy! It is even sadder to see that kind of behavior in adults!

I was reminded of a story in the Bible where there was a bitter and envious shopkeeper that was so jealous of his rival that when an angel appeared to him and said he would grant him anything he desired, but his rival would receive twice as much, he asked to be blind in one of his eyes! That kind of envy and jealously is seen everywhere in our society, but it should not be seen in the heart of a believer! 1 Coriththians 3:3 says “For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?  We are called to be different, called to a higher standard, called to go against the norm of what society portrays is the “right” way.

You could be on either side of those stories.  You could be the child withholding something that your friend, family member, or complete stranger may want….forgiveness, love, money, a job, or something as simple as a kind word, but you’re so caught up within your own sin or your own world you can’t see anything in front of you or you could be the one hoping for another person’s demise because of the jealousy and envy you harbor within your heart…either way what you are harboring will only lead to your own destruction and according to scripture is evil and of the devil.  James 3:14-16  says “But if you harbor bitter envy and self ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.  Such wisdom does  not come down from heaven, but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.  For where you have envy  and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.”

I  encourage you to get right with the person(s) you have bitterness or envy towards and instead of saying “Mine, mine, mine” to that bitterness and envy let go of it within your heart…they aren’t worth holding onto…they will ultimately turn your heart cold and make you just as ugly on the outside than inside! I am no judge of beauty pageants but I am pretty sure you can tell the beauty of someone from the inside out 🙂
