Being on the worship team at church is a blessing and gives me such a joy to help people enter into worship, but one thing I loathe is watching my son misbehave from the stage and not be able to correct him. Being the 5 yr old that he is, he just can’t seem to sit still no matter what…it is like he has ants in his pants! His father and I have asked him just to be still and have tried to explain to him what is expected of him at church, but some days are better then others. I know as he gets older he will settle down and be still, but for now it is a constant battle.
His reluctance of being still reminds me of our constant battle when the Holy Spirit is asking us to the same. We are such a busy people….many of us because we have to be, but some because we think we need to be even when we don’t have to be. We have perfected the glorification of busy. Because of that glorification there has been a constant drumming in my head this last month that I cannot shake and it is “Be still, and know that I am God…just wait my child on MY perfect timing.” I hear it through my day…”everything in God’s timing…everything in God’s timing” it strums me along. The Hebrew word for still means “to cease striving.” That phrase alone goes against everything this world tells us to do and yet that is what I keep hearing..God and His ways are always opposite of what the world tells us to! “To cease striving,” is just letting go and letting God, to not interfere with His plans, and to get your hands out of the situation. When you think about it, we use our hands everyday for a lot of things…for our daily tasks, for our defense, and to embrace…but when we “get still”, placing them on our side, out of the way, we become vulnerable and defenseless unless the are pressed together in prayer 🙂
I encourage you today if you have been anxious about something going on in your life, but you are unsure of the path you should be taking to just “Be still,” pray and wait on the One who already knows your path. Most the time He is only waiting for things to line up for your benefit so that He may be glorified. Don’t let those ants in your pants get you so anxious you miss out on the blessings that God wants to bestow upon your life…be still and know that he is God!
