Straddling the casual fence are we?

Working in the kitchen, not barefoot & pregnant finally, I most of the time listen to the radio or my ipod.  This morning an amazing song came on that truly hit a chord within my spirit only because I happened to witness a “christian” talk the talk but not walking the walk and it just began to really convict me of all the times I found myself doing the same thing.  A scripture was quoted within this song and it was 1 Corinthians 13:2 “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.” How profound and how powerful that scripture is.  I cannot tell you how many times I would witness people using all the right words and scriptures putting their “religion” on display for the world to see only to be lacking the one thing God asks us to do….love! I no doubt am not innocent of this disobedience, but daily asks to be kept in check with this very thing!

I don’t think so much that the world is tired of hearing the gospel message than it is so tired of the people that carry that message with a tainted heart and hidden agendas! I know I myself am tired of it while the rest of us get such a bad rap because of it.  I usually sugar coat most things as my friends and family like to tell me, but this is something I cannot wrap up in a pretty little bag with curly little strings.  If you are a confessing Christian going around talking about how great God is and how you are going to pray for people so you can look good to the people around you but yet your heart is filled with envy, malice, and lust for everything but God, then you my friend need a good Holy Spirit butt kicking! Let me start with these:

Isaiah 29:13 “The Lord says: “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.” Meaning talking the talk, but not walking the walk!

James 1:26 “If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.” Meaning talking the talk, but behind closed doors cursing like a sailor, gossiping, lying, and speaking bad about your neighbor..a.k.a not walking the walk!

Revelation 3:15-16 “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” Meaning stop being a casual Christian or a Christian of convenience!

“Cissy, how dare you be so judging of other Christians, for you don’t know what they are going through!” Unfortunately, yes I do…been there, done that, and have the scars to prove it.  Maybe that is what made Paul so vocal and unashamed of the gospel.  I say enough is enough of this acting like a Christian when it benefits us and talking the talk on Sunday only to be found bar hopping through the week…enough!  Christ didn’t die to become a mockery of such a life…He came to set you free from that life!

I want to encourage you not to turn yourself off to the conviction of the Holy Spirit if what I speak of is refering to you.  Think of how you act around your friends, around unbelievers, but mostly when no one is around and that my friend will tell you what lies within your heart.  You alone know the hidden corners of your heart…do they lie within the world or with the One who has come to give you abundant life, or both? I plead with you to stop straddling the fence and stop being a casual Christian. Would you have wanted Christ to sit on the fence with your salvation, to only do what He came to do half way? Uhh, I for one am very glad he walked that walk and talked that talk all the way to Calvary 🙂 Now let’s start doing the same!
