If Heaven and Hell exist I’d rather go to Hell?

I normally don’t blog on the weekends just so I can spend time with the kids, but I cannot shake what I have recently been reading through Facebook and other comments left on other internet pages.  I realized after reading them how naive I am to the fact of how lost people really are.  I guess others can say that about me if they were to know my beliefs.  They could think I am lost because I believe in Jesus being the only way, the truth, and the life.  I have studied many other religions and out of all of them, Jesus Christ, not Christianity, is the only one that has truly given me what He says He promises…maybe because I have finally completely given my life to Him. I know I definately don’t have all the answers and will never claim to, but to see some of the comments people leave have really stirred my spirit and I feel I have to leave my own answer.

Now I know some people post comments just to get a rise out of others or to just get attention, but then there are those comments that make me sit back and realize how well the enemy of our souls has blinded people to who God really is and why He sent His son here. For example this woman writes: “I’m not a Christian, but if heaven and hell do exist I’d rather go to hell, let’s face it, God is extremely judgmental, for one sin he will send you straight to hell? Yet, the devil, bless him, he’ll accept you no matter how many times you’ve sinned.”  For her not to be a Christian she obviously has read part of the Bible, but must have skipped the New Testament which is where God’s grace and mercy for His people comes in like a flood and accepts our one sin and many others through His Son! So many people are taught this same school of thought as I was which is “God sits up in the big sky watching our every move and is just waiting for us to mess up so He can judge us.”  That is so far from the truth and the enemy has mastered this decietful lie very well. Yes, in the Old Testament God did judge the people of the earth.  We were His creation and our sin, the orgies, the drunkeness, the sexual immorality, the murdering, the numerous other horrrible things His creation was doing was unbearable to Him because He was and is a holy God.

I am not here to argue certain theological view points about the Old or New Testament, but to lay what I believe is truth on the line for those who do not know the facts of salvation.  First, salvation is a gift, not something you work towards, or be purchased at a certain church.  Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” Next, Jesus, God’s son, was born of a virgin birth, which was prophesied in Isaiah 7:14 “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” Jesus lived on earth approximately 33 yrs, healing the sick, the demon possessed, raising people from the dead, and teaching others how to live an abundant life.  He was handed over to be killed because the Pharisees were threatened by His power he had with the people and the theology of His day, which also was prophesied in Psalm 22:16-18 “Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.” There are many statements Jesus said about who He was and what He came for. They were not made up, but are in the gospels, or testimonies, of Mark, Luke, John, and Matthew.  I encourage you to read them and see for yourself who “this man” said he was and what He came to do.

Secondly, when Christ was handed over to be killed God’s plan was for Him to die for our sins, the bad things we have done, once and for all…to be the atonement of sin so that there no longer has to be an animal sacrifice, as it was with Jewish custom for our sin.  Once Christ died on the cross He made a way for everyone to live eternal life through believing in Him…The famous verse, John 3:16 wraps up the plan of salvation very nicely….that He was the Son of God, He died on the cross for our sin, and rose again on the third day and is sitting at the right hand of God now.  Just believing John 3:16 will ignite a fire within you that can become unquenchable to those really wanting to seek God out.

So, today I encourage you that if you really don’t know what the whole salvation, heaven and hell thing is all about, don’t take someone’s word for it, but read the four gospels in which it came from.  I pray you gain a better understanding and that you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you to the truth.

If you have any questions I will gladly attempt to answer them and I if I have no answer I know I can direct you to someone who does 🙂 As always be blessed!
