It seems more than usual, especially during the holidays, we can become much more distracted from the purposes God calls us to. I have seen it just in the last week how easily thoughts would fill my head of things that would take my focus off specific things I know He has called me to or my day gets clamored with more than I intended and before I know I am rushing here and putting off what I was supposed to do for that day, again distracting me.
1 Corinthians 7:35 states “I am saying this for your benefit, not to place restrictions on you. I want you to do whatever will help you serve the Lord best, with as few distractions as possible.” Satan would like none other than to distract you with the things of this world..believe me, I know! I was once so utterly distracted at one time in my life that I didn’t see my whole world fixing to come crashing down! We must be diligent in our effort to stay focused and clear minded cause the enemy surely has perfected his battle plan of distracting us with the things of this world making us unfruitful as Mark 4:18-19 says “Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.”
Now, I”m a not saying to not enjoy the things and people God has blessed you with, but when they start to take precedence over time with Him and you begin to feel your focus shift then yes, I am saying you need a priority check. I see so many times when things start to go wrong in someone’s life they begin blaming this and that and forget to take a good look at themselves and where their priorities are. Most of the time they have gotten so distracted with the wrong things and have taken their focus off Christ. I myself have been so guilty of doing just that a couple of years ago I felt I needed to share with fellow believers.
Our time here so is very short…it truly is and so we must stay the course of the race stay focused on why we are here. I pray you see and are aware of the distractions that the enemy places in your life. Some maybe obvious, others you may have to look a little closer, but once found I pray you rid your life of the them as Hebrews 12:1 points out “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Happy running 🙂
